DESIGNED FROM THE INSIDE OUT

At Openwater, material choices are never incidental. They are the result of a structured, system-driven process where performance, compliance, and long-term relevance are evaluated together. Every component, fabric, and material used in our products is selected with care, tested thoroughly, and approved before it becomes part of the final product.

All materials used across Open Water products are tested in accordance with EU REACH legislation, ensuring compliance with current chemical safety regulations and industry requirements. We work exclusively with approved materials, sourced from suppliers that meet both regulatory standards and our own internal criteria for quality and consistency. This allows us to maintain a high level of control, traceability, and reliability throughout the product lifecycle.

Beyond compliance, we continuously review and refine our material choices with the aim of reducing overall impact where possible. Rather than treating sustainability as a fixed claim, we approach it as an ongoing process of improvement. As materials, processes, and technologies evolve, we actively assess alternatives and introduce changes when they deliver clear, measurable benefits without compromising performance or durability.

A key part of this work is the increased use of recycled materials. All interior fabrics used in Open Water products are made from 100% recycled polyester, produced through a vertical, dope-dyed manufacturing process. This method integrates colour directly into the fibre during production, significantly reducing water consumption, chemical use, and energy demand compared to conventional dyeing processes, while also improving colour consistency and longevity.

Responsible Production – BSCI Audited

Production responsibility is equally important. All manufacturing partners involved in Open Water products are audited in accordance with the BSCI Code of Conduct, ensuring compliance with internationally recognised standards for working conditions, labour rights, health and safety, and ethical business practices. These audits form an essential part of our supplier evaluation process and support long-term, responsible partnerships.

By combining regulatory compliance, tested materials, audited production, and a continuous shift toward more responsible material choices, Open Water focuses on building products that are not only fit for today’s requirements, but designed to remain relevant over time. It is a measured, pragmatic approach—centred on transparency, accountability, and long-term thinking.

Transport & Sustainability

All shipments from Open Water are handled from our logistics hub in Sweden through DHL GoGreen, DHL’s sustainability programme for more responsible logistics. The initiative focuses on reducing the environmental impact of transport through a combination of emissions-reduction measures and climate-related investments within DHL’s global network.

While transport inevitably has an environmental footprint, working with a logistics partner that actively integrates climate considerations into its operations allows us to manage and reduce that impact in a transparent and structured way.

Openwaters Sustainability & Responsible Production Iniatives

At Openwater, sustainability goes hand in hand with responsible production and uncompromising quality. All materials are REACH-tested, interiors use 100% recycled dope-dyed polyester, manufacturing partners are BSCI-audited, and shipments from Sweden are handled via DHL GoGreen — ensuring durable products built with long-term responsibility.
