THE STORY BEHIND OPEN WATER

Openwater was founded on decades of experience across the luggage industry — spanning product development, engineering, sourcing, and global sales.

Before the brand existed, the team behind it had worked across different companies, markets, and roles, sharing the same conclusion: the category needed to evolve.

Too often, luggage is developed as isolated products rather than as part of a long-term system. Openwater was created to challenge that — building a modular, system-based platform designed for durability, adaptability, and long-term use.

Founded in 2024 by Zane, Openwater (also searched as “Open Water luggage”) develops premium suitcases built around structure, performance, and intelligent design.

Today, Openwater operates globally. In Europe, the brand is managed through a dedicated base in Sweden, combining distribution, logistics, and long-term brand development — ensuring proximity, reliability, and a strong foundation for continued growth.

From day one, Openwater has been built on experience, collaboration, and a clear direction: to rethink how luggage is designed, used, and improved over time.

“Go a little bit out of your depth… when you don’t feel your feet touching the bottom, you’re in the right place.” - David Bowie

WHY IS IT CALLED OPENWATER?

Openwater stands for freedom of movement — the confidence to move into the unknown.

Like open water itself, travel is wide, powerful, and full of possibility. The name reflects independence, exploration, and the courage to move beyond boundaries — supported by engineering designed to be trusted.

WHY WE DO IT

Openwater exists to enable confident movement — creating travel products that support freedom, responsibility, and long-term thinking in a fast-moving world. We believe travel gear should do more than carry belongings; it should deliver durability, intelligent engineering, and responsible use of materials.

Our purpose is to build a sustainable travel ecosystem where innovation extends product life, materials are carefully selected, and systems are designed to evolve rather than be replaced. When purpose leads, every detail has meaning — and performance becomes the natural result of clarity and precision.

We challenge the idea of disposable travel goods. Instead, we focus on modularity, repairability, and precision engineering — developing products built to last longer, adapt over time, and remain relevant beyond seasons and trends. Openwater is founded on the belief that thoughtful design can reduce environmental impact, improve travel experiences, and redefine responsible mobility.

Where Purpose Becomes Innovation. → Designed as a System.

Developed under 83 Openwater patents, Energy-Tec® defines a modular engineering system — designed to adapt over time and reduce the need to replace entire products.
